Mauricio Martinez
Attorney
Mauricio Martinez was born in Brownsville, Texas, and raised in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico, as well as McAllen, Texas. He is a proud graduate of the Science Academy of South Texas in Mercedes and earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas–Pan American in Edinburg. With strong ties throughout the region, Mauricio considers himself a true reflection of the Rio Grande Valley.
In 2015, Mauricio earned his Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University School of Law and was admitted to the Texas Bar later that year. He began his legal career as an Assistant Criminal District Attorney for Hidalgo County, where he served the community by zealously prosecuting criminal offenses. During his tenure, he handled cases in nearly every district and county court in the county and tried more than 25 cases to verdict as both first and second chair, including charges ranging from Driving While Intoxicated to Capital Murder.
In November 2020, Mauricio transitioned to criminal defense, joining the distinguished firm of O. Rene Flores, P.C. in Edinburg as an associate attorney. There, he second-chaired more than 10 jury trials involving charges of Murder and Sexual Assault, including the first jury trial held in Hidalgo County following the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions.
Seeking to broaden his legal expertise, Mauricio joined Martinez, Dietrich, and Zarcone in September 2022 as a staff attorney for Fred Loya Insurance. In this role, he defended clients in car accident cases across the state of Texas and tried over eight cases to verdict. His work included securing multiple "No Negligence" verdicts for defendant drivers in rear-end collision cases.
In January 2024, Mauricio founded The Law Office of Mauricio A. Martinez, based in Edinburg, Texas. His practice focuses on criminal defense, family law, and personal injury litigation. He also serves as Of Counsel to the Garza Law Firm, where he has successfully contributed to taking depositions and negotiating settlements in dozens of cases.
In addition to his trial work, Mauricio has extensive appellate experience. He has successfully submitted briefs and petitions for writs of mandamus to the 13th Court of Appeals and has presented oral arguments before the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in Austin.
Outside the courtroom, Mauricio is a passionate baseball fan—especially of the Los Angeles Dodgers—and an avid reader who enjoys diving into both fiction and legal literature in his spare time.
